What to Do This Winter in Michigan

Michigan is a beautiful state in all seasons. Now that it is December, winter has begun to set in, and the temperatures are dropping. So what do you do when it starts to get cold? There are a number of winter activities that Michiganders love to do. Many even anticipate winter’s arrival so they can do these activities. Winter is a wonderful time of year for Michiganders and with one visit you could easily understand why. Here are just a few of the things you can do in Michigan in the winter.

  • Visit a college campus: There are quite a few. From Northern Michigan University in the U.P. to the rivalry in Ann Arbor and East Lansing and anywhere in between. Many of the campuses in Michigan have historical buildings and they are a sight to see when covered in snow.
  • Snowmobiling: There are over 6,500 miles of snowmobile trails that crisscross Michigan. It is a fun way to adventure through the trees and through small towns. Many Michiganders start snowmobiling as soon as there is snow on the ground.
  • Detroit Zoo: Not only are the winter animals more active this time of year, but there are also the Zoo Lights. There are 5 million lights set up to look like animals and other wild things. It is great fun for the whole family.
  • Skiing and Snowboarding: There are slopes for the experienced and inexperienced alike. Enjoy flying down the hills and slopes, and then warm up in the ski lodge with a nice cup of hot chocolate.
  • Tubing and Sledding: This is better than skiing for younger families. You can just sit your young child in your lap and fly down the hill, laughing all the way.

Michigan is full of family fun winter activities. There are great adventures for you to experience whether you live here or if you are just visiting.
