Get your Michigan Home Ready for Spring

It’s almost time for the snow to melt, Spring is just around the corner. Even though Punxsutawney Phil said six more weeks of Winter are ahead, it’s never too early to start planning for Spring weather. Planning for Spring weather means making sure your home is up to date with its cooling systems and everything is clean and in working order. Here are some tips and tricks for Spring home maintenance.

Check your cooling system

Even though Spring doesn’t necessarily mean hot weather, you don’t want to be stuck with a faulty air conditioner when the warmer months roll around. Even though Michigan is known for getting cold, it can also get hot and humid in the warmer months. Check to make sure you have a clean air filter and the temperature is set correctly. If your air conditioner needs a repair, call a local heating and cooling specialist to get it fixed in time.

Clean the gutters

Cleaning your gutters is the best way to avoid water leaks in your home. Make sure any debris from the winter months is cleared from your gutters. Rain in the Spring can cause gutters to overflow. Cleaning them out is an easy fix. Make sure your gutters are secure and there are no holes or broken pieces.

Power-wash

Winter can leave a gray tint to siding and walkways. Make your home feel new again with a power-wash on your deck, siding, walkways, and driveway. You can either rent or buy a power-washer to make sure your home looks great. Power-washing will get rid of any mold and dirt that’s accumulated over the Winter months.

Organize

Every room in your house most likely needs a bit of TLC when it comes to organization. Spring is the right time to make every room feel fresh and new and make sure all of your stuff is put away. Start by cleaning out closets and storage areas with a lot of boxes that could be sorted through. Donate any old clothing, decor, furniture, or any clutter that you haven’t used in while. Don’t forget to clean out your refrigerator too.

Deep clean

Deep cleaning means getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing floors that had salt and water tracked on them all Winter. This is also a good time to dust ceilings and clean walls too. Go over all the areas that may have been neglected during your weekly cleaning over the winter.

A good way to stay accountable to your Spring home maintenance is to make a checklist of everything that needs to be done. Once you have your checklist, set a goal for each week so your home is in great shape by April. Spring is the right time to make your home feel just as fresh as the warm weather.
